Owen Swim School In-House Test

WHY DO I NEED TO SIGN UP?

The OSS In-House Test is aligned with the SwimSafer Test criteria, comprising six stages that correspond to the requirements of the SwimSafer program. This test is mandatory for determining students’ proficiency and readiness to progress to the next stage. Upon successful completion, students receive the OSS In-House Certificate, which documents their stage accomplishments on the reverse side

After obtaining the OSS In-House Certificate, students have the option to sign up for the SwimSafer Test. Our administration will verify and approve the highest stage attained by the student based on their In-House Certificate. Please note that the SwimSafer Test is not conducted or organized by Owen Swim School. As a licensed coach/swim school, we can only approve test registrations under our school. Students/parents are responsible for making payment and booking directly with the SAQ (Singapore Aquatics).

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: What prompted the change?

A: Prior to 2024, licensed coaches and swim schools were authorized to conduct SwimSafer tests and submit results to SportSG. However, with the integration of a new booking system and transition to Singapore Aquatics (SAQ), this role has been revised. As of July 1, 2025, SAQ has taken over the administration and conducting of SwimSafer tests, and coaches and swim schools are now responsible for approving students for the test.

Q: When and where can my child take the SwimSafer test?

A: Singapore Aquatics has designated specific public swimming pools and schedules for SwimSafer tests. Our administrative team can guide you through the booking process and determine your child’s eligibility based on their latest in-house certificate. For optimal results, we recommend students participate in the SwimSafer test after our quarterly in-house assessments (if invited), allowing them to attempt the highest stage possible. This service is available exclusively to our active students.

Q: What are the fees associated with the tests?

A: Our in-house test fee is $20, while the SwimSafer test fee is $50.

Q: What is the difference between the in-house test and the SwimSafer test?

A: Our in-house test is an internal assessment that evaluates student progress and maintains quality standards. Upon passing, students receive an in-house certificate outlining their accomplishments at that stage. This certificate is a prerequisite for participating in the SwimSafer test. The SwimSafer test, on the other hand, is a national standard assessment in Singapore.

Q: Is participation in the tests compulsory?

A: Yes, participation in the in-house test is mandatory for progression to higher stages. However, the SwimSafer test is optional.

Q: Is the in-house certificate recognized?

A: While our in-house certificate is primarily for internal use, it does provide detailed information on your child’s accomplishments at each stage. Some schools may accept it; we recommend verifying with your child’s school directly.

Q: How many stages are there in the SwimSafer program?

A: We follow the SwimSafer program, which consists of six stages (Stages 1-6, with Stage 4 being Bronze, Stage 5 being Silver, and Stage 6 being Gold). Additionally, we offer a beginner level program called SwimStarter, which precedes to the SwimSafer program.

Q: What if I am unable to attend the scheduled in-house test date?

A: While test dates are fixed, we understand that unforeseen circumstances may arise. We can offer flexibility by conducting the test for your child one week prior to the scheduled test date, subject to arrangement. Please notify us in advance so we can make necessary arrangements.

Q: What if I am on medical leave during the scheduled in-house test date?

A: If you’re on medical leave, please provide us with a valid medical certificate, and we’ll arrange for your child to take the test on the next lesson date. Kindly notify us in advance so we can make the necessary arrangements.

Q: What if I am overseas during the month of the in-house test?

A: If your child has been invited to take the in-house test while you’re abroad, they can wait for the next quarterly test cycle (March, June, September, or December).
